About us

The Scottish ParliamentThe Words Agency aims to meet an unfulfilled need to put excellence in writing at the heart of a professional identity. It is our task to take what you want to say about yourself and make the rest of the world hear it.

The credit crunchThe agency is run by Chris Macrae, a journalist with more than 30 years' experience of writing, designing and editing for magazines, newsletters and newspapers. Chris started work in the industrial press reporting for publications in the metals and oil sectors before moving into mainstream daily newspapers. He has worked for all three leading daily broadsheet papers in Scotland: The Press & Journal, The Scotsman and The Herald where he was a senior editorial executive in charge of the news production department of 20 sub-editors.

Chris has written and edited millions of words in a career that has encompassed every area of journalism from local, national and international news to politics, business and comment. He has worked on all the biggest stories of recent times from Piper Alpha to the 9/11 attacks, from the death of Princess Diana to the birth of the Scottish Parliament, from the rise of Silicon Glen to the collapse of banking in the credit crunch.

He has all the skills necessary to make a complex subject or event accessible and attractive to a target audience. Chris works with experts in every sector of communications, from media training to corporate videos, through his wide network and can access these skills to accomplish any bespoke project.
